Pine Cone

My blood thinning

from bait

placed by a bitter, uncaring, shell of a man

who will never know

the joy of each new day--

as this young rat does.

I with sharpened teeth

dislodge a pinecone.

High velocity dropping

nicking his bald head for infection to enter.

I'll see you in my Heaven

your Hell.

Tripping on my Own Porch

 "Ouch!"

And the bottle shatter simultaneously

On my brick porch as the laughing wind

Drowns out my echo

With wagging palm fronds.

Yet the pain of my pet peeve,

A stubbed toe

Persists

As I hobble to the broom

Dust pan

And another beer.

Animal Kingdom

We will be just fine

unless we evolve into something

utterly polluting and self-loathing

inconsiderate and irresponsible

cowardly and short-sighted

undeserving of help

undeserving of perpetuation

extinct

like you.

Car Chase for Breakfast

Car chase for breakfast

Earth pulling

Time wasting

Sky growing heavy as fuel combustion wanes.

Kamakazi only solution

Or

Turn the channel.

Winners of Evolution?

Winners of Evolution?

While thumbing through leaves of trees

waiting for the nursery cashier

a sprig of sap stung me

as if I had just been lapped by an unknown runner

in a race to a destination

I never knew,

a finish line,

extinction

of

our

wild

selves.

The New Kind of Tarantula

The new kind of tarantula
is more like a scorpion
that is smarter than you.

Hitch-hiking on an asteroid
and then a meteor
and then your leg
in your car.

Putting wild ideas into your head
like let go of the wheel
but you resist
parked in your driveway
with snow falling
flake by flake
until the mound in the driveway
becomes a tomb.

Suspended animation
for the both of you.

More exploring will springtime bring.

Gallery of Symbiosis

Curt Fedder passes
Kurt Fedder unknowing
on a street while a slender woman
admires both.

And as they enter the same establishment
a coffee shop demon
hogging two chairs
for his stupid laptop case
and his lazy stupid leg

pre-empts them from ever finding out
as they both order to go.

No Wolves

A soundless pack
energy from a sun
on the other side of the Earth
and bounced off the moon.

An unseen encirclement
as I centered on
my snack.

Now soil is nourished
by spilled bodily fluids
and muscles run
to celebrate
teamwork.

How Often is Never?

When a bicycle chain
stops the klackity sound of ball bearings
sprockets jump
in a soundless attempt
of regaining favor,

and the sudden inclination
of Earth and self
leads to motivation
and speed
and faith.

The Fanfare Never Ceases

As I emptied my bed
the alarm filled my head
until a foreign sound from the toaster
filled the room's high reaches
with black smoke from a white
English muffin.
And an unwanted text message
emerged from the shelf
sending me back to bed
"you are fired" it said.
A hated alarm
to be missed.

Argon Gas Leak in the Lab

A team of the sorrowful
no longer wags
because there is no one to come home.

The labradoodle and black lab
noses in empty dishes
look up with a ferocity
brought on by hunger and sun.

Carelessness at work
sketches in another victim
as a silent killer leaks out
The mailman leaps to the truck
gate left open
Now they
are gone.

Dire Creations

In spite of the crunch
a shower of needles
that used to be green
and fragrant
and new
now brown from above
forcing blinking closed eyes
and awkward hand movements.

We never shall invite Percy
for it is this time of year
that memories abound
and tongues wag
about how he lit a cigarette
and accidently inflamed the tree
before the garbage man
could squint while
hurling it
into the back.

Service done.

When Skeletons fall From Outer Space

When I look out that window
that cracked slightly in summer
which seems to make a winter
that is colder than a polar vortex
inside my home
that the bank is coveting,
with avarice and drooling,
and a rubbing of hands
that sound like baby powder
which falls from the sky
like the dust of the bones
ancient and dry
cold and forgotten
with traces of DNA
of ancient space walkers
who lost their grip
when a sattelite went off course,
I see my loved one
carrying my lunch
up the frosty walkway
and breathing steam
which warms me
inside.

Sincerity

Truculent porridge!
Recalcitrant day!
Open my door to meet with the wind
that overwhelms my breath
inhaling into my lungs
like a wicker basket
full of ideas
and seafoam.
Breakfast is over!

Growing Metaphysical Eyesight Over the Horizon

When the Lord made the angels,
She forgot to give them bones
which made her cry
like a little girl
as they
pathetically
flopped
on
the
Earth's
new
shore.

Stop Churning the Dust

I refuse to pray
the way
they do
in church.
I say Goddammit! Stop this sweating sun
and moonlit mold
poison ivy sting
itching tick-bite
tiny virus burrowing in my nasal cells when I have no Kleenex,
and wind churning up dust
in my eyes!
That is my Sunday to Sunday prayer.

Rainstorm in The Produce Section

Saving money
Spraying pressure
From the hose
To sprinkle broccoli
Never replaced
Constantly handled
Mistreated by kids
And untrained employees
A crack in the plastic
A jerk from below
And overnight
A constant flow.

Land Foils the Sea

To skate on air
one must believe
that going up
is just as
left or right.

The gravity of the belief
is just as
going up
just keeps us gliding
until we stop flapping.
Then it's up or
down.

Leaf With no Name

I am the leaf
that don't have no name
that you look on with distain
like a butcher or thief.

I dropped from my tree
without permission from the rest
to breathe my last breath
independent and free.
